World of Warcraft or Lord of the Rings Online?

I suppose it’s my own fault for putting Blizzard on a gaming pedestal. But after the way they chose to treat their players over the ghost wolf situation I’ve lost a lot of my enthusiasm for the game. I’m not saying I’m canceling my account today, but after over three years of playing WoW I find myself interested in looking at other MMORPGs.

I’m not a huge Lord of the Rings fan, but I do enjoy that environment. And from what I’ve seen of the online game and the small bits I’ve heard about it, Lotro looks like it might be fun.

I was just curious if any WoW players here had played Lotro and how they thought it compared to playing WoW. I’m mainly just looking for general impressions. Does the game play feel similar? Is it solo friendly? Things like that. I’ve already started looking at Lotro sites for more specific information. But I respect the opinions of most of the people here. So any input would be most welcome.

I really enjoyed the game, the scenery is gorgeous, the classes are all different, the crafting has a bit of a different spin on it. I loved the lore, the quets that unfolded alongside the LoTR storyline.

But saying all that, it's just not alive. I don't know how else to describe it, but there is something that is missing, a something that is undescribable.

Find out for yourself, you can get the game for about $20 and try it for a month. There is an Allah guild on Meneldor, look for Yanari, Nobby, or Kitca.

I played LOTRO. It was by far the best MMORPG i have played outside of WoW. The setting was great, the classes play well, and it was fun. Compared to my server in WoW the population was about the same so that didnt bother me much.

I dunno what it was that turned me off from the game, but i canceled during my free month and went back to WoW. I think its mainly cuz im a WoW addict.

I didnt make it far in that game though. So i dont know what happens at later levels.

If you like LOTR, its a pretty sweet deal being "in" the story. The game relies on that a bit i think. So if you arent a fan of LOTR, the game might seem dull. It's similar to WoW in many ways though.
